Outdoor Classroom

Outdoor Classroom Presented by the Junior League of the Shoals Where Nature Becomes the Classroom The Outdoor Classroom, generously made possible by the Junior League of the Shoals, is a vibrant space where children can explore, create, and learn through hands-on experiences in the great outdoors.

Designed to spark curiosity and encourage imaginative play, this interactive learning environment blends education with adventure. Winding pathways invite young explorers to journey through a space filled with discovery, movement, music, and nature.

Children can:

  • Wander along interactive pathways that inspire exploration and imaginative adventures.
  • Create music with colorful outdoor drums and percussion instruments.
  • Engage in sensory play that encourages creativity and problem-solving.
  • Observe the beauty of nature while developing an appreciation for the environment.
  • Build confidence through open-ended play and hands-on learning.
  • Collaborate with friends while strengthening communication, teamwork, and social skills.

Research shows that outdoor learning enhances creativity, physical activity, emotional well-being, and cognitive development. Our Outdoor Classroom provides children with the freedom to ask questions, make discoveries, and experience the joy of learning beyond four walls.

Whether they’re marching to their own beat on the drums, following winding pathways, exploring natural elements, or simply enjoying the fresh air, every visit offers a new adventure that inspires curiosity and lifelong learning.

The Children’s Museum of the Shoals is deeply grateful to the Junior League of the Shoals for their vision and generosity in creating this remarkable space. Their investment ensures that generations of children will continue to learn, explore, and imagine in an environment where every path leads to discovery.
